WCHS Commanderette Basketball to Host Marshall County February 5

(SPRINGFIELD, Ky.) – The Washington County High School Commanderette Basketball team will host the Marshall County Lady Marshals on Monday, February 5, 2018 beginning at 6:00 p.m. with a junior varsity game, followed by a varsity game at 7:30 p.m. There will be no admission for the game, however, donations will be taken up at the door with all proceeds being donated to Marshall County High School. The theme for Monday night’s basketball games is “Marshall Strong”. All who attend are encouraged to wear blue and/orange, in memory of the victims of the recent Marshall County school shooting and in honor of the students and staff at Marshall County High School. Students are also encouraged to wear blue and/orange on Monday. Washington County Elementary School students can dress down if wearing the colors.
Pre-games activities with the Lady Marshals will be held throughout Monday. The team will be escorted by police officers with the Springfield Police Department, and the community is invited to line the streets upon their arrival to welcome the team. Students at Washington County Elementary School, Washington County Middle School, North Washington Elementary/Middle School and Saint Dominic School will be making posters to welcome the team as they arrive. An arrival time will be announced before Monday. Bumblebee Team Sports is donating basketball shirts for the Lady Marshals and the Commanderettes. The WCHS chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) will also be providing a meal for the Lady Marshals. Springfield Tourism is providing a boxed meal for the Lady Marshals for their return trip home. AMC Designs will be assisting with a paint party for the girls while they are here.
“We are so humbled to host Marshall County on Monday,” said Lena Bramblett, head basketball coach of the WCHS Commanderettes. “We have the opportunity to serve and love on students and coaches who have been through so much over the last week. Our players are excited to reach out to this group of young ladies.”
“The Marshall County School District has continued to be in our thoughts and prayers,” says Superintendent Dr. J. Robin Cochran. “We are honored to host the girls and build connections that will hopefully last a lifetime. Kentucky Public Schools are a close knit group and we are proud of our students for their commitment to loving one another.”
J&J Inks will be providing t-shirts for the Washington County School District that will be handed out Monday night to students attending the games. The games will be broadcast on WLSK 100.9 FM and on the radio station’s website at wlskfm.com. It will also be live-streamed on the WCSD district Facebook page.
