National Weatherization Day is today and Community Action is Making a Difference One House at a Time

Why is weatherization so important? Lebanon resident, Elizabeth Cook, recently sat down with Central Kentucky Community Action Council (CKCAC), to explain just how vital the Weatherization Program is for her family and our community. Elizabeth, along with her husband, son and three small grandchildren, live in a trailer that’s in dire need of improvements. The Cooks only have one source of income and have used all of their savings to officially adopt their grandchildren, which makes making the proper home repairs financially and physically overwhelming. Elizabeth explained to CKCAC that their trailer has hardly any insulation and a window that won’t close, which is very worrisome with the winter months approaching. The only thing she wants is for her grandchildren to be safe and warm.

Thankfully, the Cooks were approved this year by CKCAC’s Weatherization Program to receive the home improvements they so desperately need to make their home safe and more energy efficient. Adding insulation and fixing the window will also help them save money by lowering their heating bill.

Once this financial burden has been lifted, they can use their income to focus on the well-being of their grandchildren. Oct. 30th, 2018 is National Weatherization Day and it is the perfect example of what CKCAC strives for every day.
